The Sealy Police Department has arrested two suspects following an investigation into an organized cargo theft at a business in the 5000 block of the Northwest I-10 Frontage Road.
According to the Sealy Police Department, the investigation began after approximately 32,000 pounds of precious metal, valued at an estimated $272,000, was reported stolen. Investigators, patrol officers, K-9 units and the affected business worked together throughout the investigation.
Authorities said the coordinated effort led officers to stop and detain two suspects as they attempted to leave the property with the stolen cargo. Investigators also determined that the suspects and the 18-wheeler allegedly used during the offense were connected to a similar cargo theft from the same business earlier this month.
The stolen cargo was unloaded, documented as evidence and returned to its owner. The truck and trailer allegedly used in the theft were secured and placed into storage pending possible seizure as the investigation continues. Police also credited the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology with helping bring the investigation to a successful conclusion.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of Rahual, 25, and Virender Phore, 36. Both have been charged with Theft of Cargo Valued at $200,000 or More, a first-degree felony under Texas law.
If convicted, the charge carries a possible punishment of five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The investigation remains active, and the Sealy Police Department said additional charges are expected.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
