Diversity Offices On College Campuses Will Soon Be Illegal In Texas, As 30 New Laws Go Into Effect

A new law in Texas, effective January 1, will dissolve diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at public universities, preventing them from offering training on diversity and inclusion for faculty and staff or requiring diversity statements in hiring processes. This move has already led to the shutdown of university-led student support programs and made hiring new faculty more challenging. In addition to this law, several others are set to take effect in the new year, including changes to tax codes, diverting minors charged with certain misdemeanors to support programs, and restrictions on e-cigarette advertising to minors.
