“Today marks the third day since Texas Democrats boarded private planes to Washington D.C. to
prohibit the Texas House of Representatives from being able to establish a quorum to conduct the
business of the people of Texas. To say it is disheartening that Texas Democrats are shirking their
duties, is an understatement. Many Texans are counting on the Texas Legislature to address the

very important issues added to the call by the governor and we should be having those discussions
instead of delaying them any further. Unfortunately, because of the democrats actions (or inaction)
our retired teachers who would benefit greatly from a badly needed 13th check will sadly not be
getting one; foster kids who desperately need better protections and attention paid to the system
that is failing them will go without; senior citizens who are desperate for continued relief from
rising property taxes will have to continue to see their life savings depleted; young Texas women

who want the chance to compete on an even-playing field in UIL sports will not get that
opportunity; scared families who are continuously let down by a bail system that creates revolving
doors for violent criminals to be released and commit further violent crimes will continue to be in
fear for their lives; and all of Texas, which wants to see a Texas Solution to the border crisis put
into action instead of allowing drug smugglers and human traffickers to run rampant, will continue
to be put in harm’s way. I will continue to work for the people of my district until we get the job
done and it is my hope my democrat colleagues that fled will come to their senses and return
immediately so we may carry out the duties we took an oath to uphold,” said State Representative
Ben Leman.
