The Blinn College softball team saw its season come to a close at the Region XIV Tournament on Sunday in Bossier City, La.
The Buccaneers fell to San Jacinto College-South 8-7 in a consolation matchup and concluded their season with a 23-23 record.
Blinn’s season ended with consecutive one-run losses in the double-elimination postseason tournament.
“We fought back and had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh inning,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said. “It’s disappointing to end our tournament run early after coming in as the number-one seed, but our players didn’t quit fighting all weekend.”
Sunday’s matchup between the Region XIV South division rivals proved to be a tense one after the Ravens built leads of 5-1 and 6-2 over the Bucs.
Blinn rallied with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by RBI doubles for sophomores and Bailey Boetjer, as well as an RBI single for Cadence Wiese that cut San Jacinto’s lead to 6-5.
In the home half of the sixth, DeLeon pulled her team even with a sacrifice fly.
A two-run single put the Ravens back on top in the top of the seventh.
In their final at bat, the Bucs got a lead-off homer from Wiese to get within one. Blinn then put runners on first and second with a pair of singles, but with two outs, a groundout ended the game.
Despite the tough finish to their season, the Bucs enjoyed a successful 2025 campaign.
After a rough 5-17 start to the year, Blinn went on an 18-4 tear to conclude the regular season that included a 17-1 stretch following a 2-4 start in the South. The Bucs went 19-5 in South play to clinch their first regular-season South title since 2019.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
