The Greater Sealy Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 10, 2023, to mark the opening of the Austin County Rotary Club’s new disc golf course at the Jaqueline A. Cryan Memorial Park. The project, which has been in the works for over a year, was made possible through a combination of community grants and local sponsorships.

The course construction was made possible by a $10,385 LCRA Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $2,600 in matching funds from the Rotary Club of Austin County. This grant was one of 36 grants awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program and helped to fund the construction of the disc golf course. The Rotary Club also sold sponsorships to local entities to help cover the cost of the course construction.

Disc golf is a popular and growing sport, played much like traditional golf, but with a flying plastic disc instead of a golf club and ball. The objective is to throw the disc as few times as possible into a series of baskets along the course. The new disc golf course in Sealy will provide a new and exciting opportunity for entertainment and recreation in the area. It is expected to be particularly popular among teenagers who are looking for outdoor activities.

Minimal upkeep and maintenance are required for the disc golf course, making it a low-maintenance and cost-effective addition to the Sealy community. The construction of the course was approved by the city council on May 3, 2022, and now it is finally open for the public to enjoy.   The new disc golf course at the Jaqueline A. Cryan Memorial Park is a welcome addition to the Sealy community and will provide a new source of entertainment and recreation for residents.
