The 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24 loss was the Buccaneers’ first of the season and dropped their record to 8-1 (0-1 Region XIV).

“I thought we played hard,” Blinn College head coach Terry Gamble said. “We just made a lot of young mistakes at crucial times that hurt us.”

Leading the Buccaneers offensively were hitters Kierslynn Wright (sophomore) and LaNeah Lara (freshman) with 18 kills apiece. Freshman Kelsi Wingo had 43 set assists.

On defense, sophomore libero Ellie Turner recorded 21 digs and freshman Taylor Glendening had four block assists and two solo blocks.

Blinn resumes its season with a region matchup against Coastal Bend College beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Kruse Center.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
