A tough day at the plate for No. 19 Blinn College softball resulted in a doubleheader sweep by No. 8 Trinity Valley Community College on Wednesday at Hohlt Park in Brenham.

The Cardinals took both games, winning 4-1 in the opener and 7-2 in game two.

Blinn falls to 20-12 overall.

In game one, Trinity Valley scored once in the first inning and added two more in the fourth before Blinn answered in the sixth. A freshman utility player delivered an RBI single to get the Buccaneers on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1. The Cardinals added one final run in the seventh.

Blinn finished with six hits in the opener.

Sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore (11-6) took the loss despite going the distance. She allowed four unearned runs on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Game two remained close early, with the teams tied 1-1 through four innings. Trinity Valley broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning, then added two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh. Blinn picked up its second run in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore first baseman Daniela Lopez led the Bucs offensively with two hits and both RBIs. Sophomore catcher Madysen Taylor also recorded two hits as Blinn totaled eight in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Madisyn Bracknell (6-3) took the loss after pitching five innings, allowing four runs, three of them earned, on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Freshman Jamison Wlos and sophomore Kacie Dudensing each pitched one inning in relief.

Blinn will look to rebound when it hosts Lamar State College-Port Arthur for a Region 14 South doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Hohlt Park.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and has won 53 national championships since 1987.
