Military caregiving webinars are offered through the Texas Military Program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to provide professional development and interactive resources for professionals and others providing care to injured military.

“The negative impact of traumatic events can go beyond those who directly experience them to the caregivers who provide services for them,” said Rachel Brauner, AgriLife Extension program specialist with the agency’s Texas Military Program, Bryan-College Station. “This secondary traumatic stress can have a negative impact on social and occupational functioning.”

She said the webinar is designed to help caregivers understand the complexities of secondary traumatic stress and to give them some tools to recognize and address this condition.

Brian Bride, Ph.D., a distinguished university professor in the School of Social Work at Georgia State University, will be the presenter. He will introduce attendees to the concept of secondary traumatic stress and its symptoms, as well as provide some strategies to minimize the negative impact secondary traumatic stress has on caregivers.
