TYLER, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball improved on its effort against Tyler Junior College on the road but fell short in a 75-58 loss Feb. 11 in Tyler.
The loss to loss is the second consecutive for the Buccaneers that are in the middle of a tough stretch of games as the conference record fell to 10-6 and 17-9 overall.
Alexus Freeman did have a good game for Blinn in leading the team with 19 points while Chant Lewis also hit double figures with 12. Nancy Warioba finished with eight points and Katelynn Johnson chipped in seven points.
Blinn got plenty of quality looks at the basket in the first half but the Buccaneers missed a handful of layups and only hit half, 7-of-14, of their free throws and trailed 37-25 at the break.
Tyler is accustomed to putting up big numbers on the scoreboard and Blinn put forth a solid effort on defense but didn’t score enough to bring much closer in the second half.
“When I looked at the schedule early in the season I knew that this would be a tough stretch of games for us,” Jenkins said. “Hopefully we just try getting better and just improve on it.”
Blinn will be back home Feb. 14 hosting San Jacinto College-North for a game at 4 p.m.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 30 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
