PRIMARY PURPOSE The role of a Bilingual Paraprofessional in Bellville ISD is to assist the supervising teacher to foster the interest, creativity, and capability of our Bilingual and ESL students in understanding grade level concepts to support their successful pursuit of academic and career aspirations. Para in BISD under the supervision of a certified teacher are charged with leading efforts to ensure our students have opportunities to explore and gain expertise in areas aligned with their strengths and interests so that each individual becomes what one has the potential to be. This includes engaging students’ hearts and minds, giving accountable ownership of purposeful work, and providing timely and meaningful feedback. Reports to: Principal Location: O’Bryant Primary QUALIFICATIONS Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt High School diploma or equivalent Ability to facilitate students setting and maintaining standards for classroom safety and behavior Ability to support students in gaining the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to understand grade level concepts Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials for Bilingual and ESL students. Conduct instructional activities assigned by the teacher for Bilingual and ESL students. Work with individual Bilingual and ESL students or small groups Provide targeted instruction and activities to develop and strengthen social and academic language with Bilingual and ESL students.
