On Thursday, February 6, 2025, a major drug bust operation conducted by the Westside Narcotics Task Force (HIDTA) led to the seizure of a massive quantity of illegal narcotics, delivering a significant blow to a Mexican Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) operating in the Houston area.

Over the past several weeks, members of the Westside Narcotics Task Force (WNTF) initiated an intensive investigation that successfully identified a crystal methamphetamine supply source operating within Houston. During the course of the investigation, Task Force Officers uncovered a “stash house” used by the DTO for distributing multi-kilogram quantities of crystal methamphetamine.

With crucial assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Harris County Precinct 3 Constableโ€™s Office, WNTF officers executed a targeted operation that culminated in the arrest of 27-year-old Miguel Angel Chavez-Cerrtino. Authorities seized 625 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately $31 million dollars, from the stash house. Chavez-Cerrtino has been charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute crystal methamphetamine, a federal offense, by the United States Attorneyโ€™s Office. If convicted he could be facing from ten years to life depending on aggravating factors.

The Westside Narcotics Task Force (HIDTA) operates across five counties and is composed of investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Austin County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Bellville Police Department, Sealy Police Department, Hempstead Police Department, Waller County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Fayette County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Colorado County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Lavaca County Sheriffโ€™s Office, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Officials commend the collaborative efforts of these agencies, whose coordination and diligence were pivotal in dismantling a key supply chain of illegal narcotics in the region. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to identify additional individuals connected to the DTO.
