George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport will come to a standstill on Tuesday as an arctic front sweeps through the Houston area, delivering the season’s coldest air and a rare winter storm. A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for Southeast Texas from Monday at 6 p.m. to Tuesday at 6 p.m., with three to five inches of snow expected across the region. Some areas may see even higher snowfall totals as the storm intensifies. The Houston Airport System has announced that both airports will close their doors at midnight Tuesday, grounding all flights in anticipation of the severe weather. Airlines have already activated travel waiver programs, offering travelers the chance to reschedule their flights without change fees, providing some relief amid the disruption.

As the snow blankets the city, airport officials will work tirelessly behind the scenes. Crews will remain on-site, operating snowplows and heavy machinery to clear the airfields, ensuring a safe and swift return to normal operations once conditions improve. Weather conditions will be closely monitored throughout Tuesday to determine if flights can resume on Wednesday.

Travelers are urged to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements, avoiding travel on Tuesday to ensure their safety during this unprecedented winter weather event in the Houston area. You can find information posted by the airports HERE.
