An accident at the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 331 caused significant traffic delays as emergency personnel responded to the scene. The collision involved an 18-wheeler and a small car, resulting in both northbound main lanes of Highway 36 being closed.

Preliminary reports suggest the small car attempted to cross the highway in front of the tractor-trailer, leading to the crash. The car was found overturned between the highway and the railroad tracks, while the tractor-trailer came to rest off the highway with front-end damage.

Emergency responders on site included EMS, Highway Patrol, and the Austin County Sheriff’s Office. One ambulance had already departed the scene, though the extent of injuries is not yet known. Traffic was at a standstill until authorities began detouring vehicles onto Highway 331.

As of 5:00 PM, Austin County Emergency Services District 2 (ACESD2) has cleared the scene, while TxDOT remains on location to divert traffic. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and remain aware of personnel in the area as authorities continue managing the site.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
