On February 28, 2024, at approximately 12:24 PM, an Austin County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Hwy 36 near Hay Rd in Bellville, TX, for traveling 90 mph in a posted 75 mph zone. Deputies discovered that the vehicle, a silver VW Passat, had been reported stolen from Baytown, Texas, earlier that morning.

The driver, identified as Rami Idrissou of Katy, initially started to pull over but then accelerated at a rapid pace in an attempt to evade arrest. Deputies, along with Bellville Police, pursued the vehicle through Bellville and ultimately onto Hwy 159 E. at a high rate of speed.

Idrissou wrecked the vehicle in Hempstead, Texas, after officers were able to deploy spikes and deflate the tires. He was taken into custody and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Idrissou was eventually transported and released to the Austin County Jail.

The Austin County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from Bellville PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, and The Hempstead Police Department during the incident.
