Austin County residents aged 55 and older are invited to a FREE CarFit event for senior driver safety. The event will be held in Bellville and is designed to help mature drivers stay safer and comfortable behind the wheel. The event will kick off with a workshop from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 1st, 2025 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, located at 800 East Wendt, Bellville, TX 77418.

During the morning session, attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee, snacks, and a free goody bag while participating in a presentation led by Pamela Edwards, Texas A&M coordinator, and Stephen Brockman, a representative from the DPS. The duo will explain the FREE CarFit event for senior driver safety, answer questions, and assist attendees in selecting an afternoon appointment for the hands-on CarFit review.

Following the workshop, personal CarFit sessions will take place from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Participants will have a 20-minute personalized review where trained technicians will assess 12 key areas such as steering wheel tilt and placement, safe mirror positioning, properly adjusted head restraints, and line of sight. Small adjustments in these areas can make a big difference in driver safety and comfort.

At the end of the session, drivers can expect their vehicle to be a better “fit,” supporting increased safety and mobility when traveling. Importantly, CarFit is not a driving test or mechanical inspection. Participation in the free CarFit event for senior driver safety is entirely voluntary, and the goal is to provide a free, fun, and educational experience for mature drivers.

There are only 20 available slots for the afternoon CarFit sessions, so early RSVPs are encouraged. To reserve a spot, attendees should call or text Host Tammy Schrader of HolisticCare Home Caregiving at 979-274-9661. For additional updates, you can also follow Silver Drivers Safe Texans on Facebook. This event is part of a national effort supported by organizations like Save a Life Texas, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to help seniors drive safer and longer.
