Blinn College esports earned a victory in Overwatch play while enduring a setback in a Call of Duty match Wednesday. 

The Buccaneers swept Salt Lake Community College 3-0 in an NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) Overwatch tilt, taking the best-of-five series in a clean sweep. Blinn’s Call of Duty team fell 3-0 in a best-of-five series to the University of North Texas-Dallas in a National Association of Collegiate Esports clash. 

The Buccaneers improved to 6-0 in NJCAAe Overwatch play behind the efforts of Haluk TanrisevenDonnivan StraightAndrew DugasMatthew Hutchings, and Javier Amezcua.

“This was our toughest match of the regular season for NJCAAe, and we knew going into this match that we would need to play well in order to not to give up any maps or points that could possibly impact seeding for the playoffs,” said Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto. “We want to make sure we have a top seed going into playoffs so we can hopefully meet Bryant & Stratton College in the national championship match once again.” 

Blinn Overwatch finishes the NJCAAe regular season with a tilt against Carl Sandburg College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. 

The Buccaneer Call of Duty team dropped to 2-5 overall in its NACE finale.

“We struggled to get much going and couldn’t seem to win gunfights,” said assistant coach Ryan Lucich. “Regardless, I’m still proud of the team’s resilience to keep energy and communications up throughout the series, we just didn’t play well today. Now we can focus our full energy towards finishing the NJCAAe regular season and looking forward to NJCAAe playoffs.” 

Blinn takes on Hutchinson Community College in NJCAAe Call of Duty plat at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
