WACO, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball didn’t play its prettiest game but played hard enough to beat McLennan Community College 70-61 Wednesday afternoon in Waco.

The Buccaneers showed their balance in having all 10 players that dressed score at least one point as Blinn improved to 9-4 overall and stay at 2-3 in Region XIV play.

Ebony Parker led the Buccaneers with 13 points while Ekiya Gray and Penina Faumui each scored 12 points. Gabriella Odom and Abigail Whyte each chipped in with seven points in the victory.

“Penina played well and was efficient and Gabriella is a really good offensive player,” said Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins. “We came out playing hard but it wasn’t our prettiest game.”

Blinn really controlled the game throughout as it held a slim 16-13 lead after one quarter and expanded that lead to 31-21 at the half. The Buccaneers essentially maintained that lead throughout the second half with an 11 point lead heading into the fourth quarter and coming out on top by nine points after the final buzzer.

Blinn will head out to Waco again on Saturday, Jan. 2 for a tournament game against Hill College at 12 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
