Hard work and determination allowed sophomore Nancy Warioba to earn the Don Wilhelm Award as the Blinn College women’s basketball team’s most valuable player for the 2014-15 season.

Warioba, a 6-foot-3 forward from Kisumu, Kenya, averaged a double-double with 10.8 points and 10.2 rebounds in 31 games. Warioba also earned all-region and all-Region XIV Tournament honors.

“When I came here I realized what I wanted and what I wanted to be and so I put in the work,” Warioba said.

Warioba transferred from Howard College, where she got minimal court time during her freshman year but flourished at Blinn her sophomore season.

“Nancy still has a lot of growth ahead of her,” coach Jeff Jenkins said. “She may be only 20 percent of what she can be because she is 6-foot-3 and runs like a deer.”

Warioba has signed to continue playing basketball at University of South Florida.

The Wilhelm Award is named after former Blinn College athletic director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the College for 10 years.

Blinn finished the year with a 20-11 overall record and 13-7 conference mark.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit: www.buccaneersports.com.
