The Blinn College esports team went 1-1 in two matches Wednesday.

The Buccaneer Overwatch team rolled past Southwestern Oregon Community College in an NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) tilt while Blinn’s Call of Duty team dropped a National Association of College Esports (NACE) bout to St. Edward’s University.

The Blinn Overwatch team prevailed 3-0 in a best-of-five series with Southwestern Oregon and improved to 4-0 in NJCAAe matches. The Bucs are still unbeaten in collegiate league play (including NACE play) with a 9-0 record.

Competing for the Bucs on Wednesday were Haluk Tanriseven, Donnivan Straight, Andrew DugasMatthew Hutchings, and Javier Amezcua.

“We are still undefeated in NJCAAe and we are feeling very confident about making another national championship appearance this semester,” said Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto. “The players have been putting in a ton of work throughout this entire semester, and from watching these games it’s obvious how badly they want to win. We are giving our opponents very little space to work with and playing at a very high level right now.”

The Bucs battle the University of Texas-Dallas in a NACE Overwatch contest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Blinn’s Call of Duty squad was unable to overcome St. Edward’s in a best-of-five match.

“We knew St. Edward’s was one of the top teams in the nation going in, but I’m proud of how we played today,” said Blinn assistant coach Ryan Lucich, who oversees the Call of Duty team. “The communication felt a lot more clear and energetic than Tuesday’s match, which allowed us to come away with more takeaways. I know if we keep that energy and communication going forward we can take anybody left in the NJCAA.”

Competing for the Bucs were Landon CamposDavid RodriguezLogan Rivera, and Michael Allen

Next up, Blinn Call of Duty faces Glen Oaks Community College in NJCAAe play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
