Blinn College men’s golf earned a victory at the 10-team Fall Aggie Invitational on Tuesday in Ardmore, Okla.

The Buccaneers’ Blue team of Austin Hassell, Jacob Halloway, Herman HolstPreston DeSerrano, and McKane Kiser battled back from a seven-shot deficit to capture the men’s team title with a three-round team score of 875 (11-over par). Blinn topped second-place finisher Tyler Junior College by three strokes for the win.

“That was a great comeback,” Blinn head coach David Johnson said. “We shot 2-under as a team when we had to do it, and I’m proud of the guys because it is really hard to come back from that far down and win. We played well as a team, and even when we had a couple of different guys struggling a bit, they took care of each other out there.”

Individually, freshman Landon Johnson of Blinn’s White team put forth the Bucs’ best performance after placing second behind a 5-under par showing. Holst, a sophomore, was 2-under for third place, DeSerrano (freshman) was 4-over for fourth place, and Hassell (sophomore) finished sixth at 6-over.

Johnson, Holst, and DeSerrano were also named to the all-tournament team.

The Blinn women’s team also competed in the Fall Aggie Invitational and placed fourth out of seven teams in two rounds of action.

Tyler claimed the women’s team crown.

Playing for Blinn were Emily Madeley, Kimberly Tiefenbach, Madison DeBerard, and Krista Vasquez.

Madeley, a sophomore, finished sixth individually, while Tiefenbach was 10th.

“All of the ladies are improving each week in some area of their game,” said Johnson. “Those small improvements are showing up each and every week. It’s a slow process, but we are getting there.”

Next up for the golf teams is the University of Houston-Victoria Fall Classic scheduled for Monday, Oct. 16, in Victoria, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
