The Blinn College esports Valorant team earned a 2-0 sweep of Laramie County Community College in a best-of-three Collegiate Valorant (CVAL) match Thursday.
, Zachary Sutton, Ilies Dolliazal, Hector Carielo, and Braeden Greiffenstein earned the victory for the Buccaneers, who improved to 2-2 in CVAL play.
Valorant is a tactical, team-based, first-person shooter set in a near-future world. Teams of five players choose unique agents with distinct abilities, combining shooting skills with strategic use of each agent’s toolkit. Teams alternate between attacking and defending. Attackers aim to plant a spike at one of the designated sites, while defenders try to prevent this or defuse the spike if planted. The first team to win 13 rounds claims victory. If both teams reach a tie at 12-12, overtime is triggered, and the match continues until one team wins by two rounds, with teams alternating between attacking and defending in each overtime round.
Blinn won its two rounds against Laramie County 13-4 and 13-7.
“This was one of the cleanest matches our team has played so far this spring,” said Blinn assistant coach and Valorant manager Ryan Lucich. ” It’s been very rewarding to see how well my team has started to play together. Their coordination and communication has improved so much and allows us to dominate matches such as this one. Our potential is very high and hopefully we can continue this momentum into the playoffs.”
The Buccaneer Valorant squad continues its season with a National Association of Collegiate Esports matchup against Randolph-Macon College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
