The No. 18 Blinn College softball team dropped both games of a Region 14 South Conference doubleheader against Galveston College on Saturday in Galveston.
The Whitecaps claimed a 10-4 win in game one before completing the sweep with a 4-3 victory in the second game.
With the losses, Blinn fell to 28-14 overall and 12-6 in South Division play. The Buccaneers are now tied with Alvin Community College for third place in the division standings.
Game One: Galveston Pulls Away Early
Blinn opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when freshman outfielder Moss delivered a two-run single.
Galveston answered quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second inning to build an early lead.
The Whitecaps scored two runs in the fourth inning before Blinn responded in the fifth with an RBI single from freshman infielder Brianna Moreno.
Galveston added another run in the sixth inning, and freshman infielder Londyn Holland closed out the scoring for the Buccaneers with her fifth home run of the season in the seventh.
Blinn finished with seven hits in the opener, led by a three-hit performance from freshman outfielder Skylar Flanagan.
Sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore took the loss and moved to 15-7 on the season after allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits with three walks in 1 1/3 innings.
Game Two: Late Home Run Lifts Galveston
The second game stayed close throughout, but Galveston used a three-run fifth inning to take control and secure the doubleheader sweep.
Moss gave Blinn an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI fielder’s choice before Galveston answered in the bottom half.
Freshman catcher Kourtney Carter put the Buccaneers back in front in the second inning with an RBI groundout to make it 2-1.
Sophomore infielder Annie Beckendorf extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning with a solo home run, her team-leading 11th of the season.
Galveston responded in the fifth with a go-ahead three-run homer that proved to be the difference.
Blinn recorded nine hits in the finale, with Flanagan, Moss, and Beckendorf each collecting two hits.
Sophomore pitcher Madisyn Bracknell was charged with the loss and fell to 8-4 despite not allowing an earned run. She gave up four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks while throwing her ninth complete game of the season.
Blinn Hosts San Jacinto College-South Next
The Buccaneers will try to bounce back when they host South Division leader San Jacinto College-South for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Monday at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
Blinn College has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and has won 53 national championships since 1987.
