The Blinn College Rocket League esports team improved to 8-1 Thursday without even turning on a computer.

Blinn’s scheduled opponent, Oklahoma City University, forfeited the match as a result of storm-related power outages. The match had been rescheduled from Tuesday due to the storm.

The Rocket League team has qualified for the national tournament, but its seeding still has to be determined.

“We are in a three-way tie for first place that will be broken later today based on tie-breakers decided by the National Association of College Esports,” said coach Aaron Kapiko. “At worst, we would finish third and have a play-in match.”

Members of Blinn’s Rocket League team are Zach Matthews (Conroe), Jack Barry (Houston), Jacob Sansom (Friendswood), and Kyle Jones (Gilmer).

Blinn’s Overwatch team lost for only the second time this season, falling 3-1 to Western Kentucky University on Thursday. The team, now 8-2, had already qualified for the 32-team national playoffs that begin next week. The national tournament is single-elimination.

Members of the team are Caleb Sheffield (Austin), Ayden Rodriguez (College Station), Andrew Magourik (Bryan), Carter Haber (Aledo, Texas), Juan Cantu (Cedar Hill, Texas), and Jacob Barnes (Bryan).

The Smash Bros. Ultimate team (1-2) will finish its season with a match tonight against Dallas Baptist University.

Blinn’s undefeated Valorant team (4-0) begins the playoffs next week at the top seed in its group.
