Blinn College’s Rocket League esports team handed group leader Marian University its first loss of the season on Wednesday.

With the 3-2 win, Blinn is tied for first in its group at 7-1.

“They were great games overall,” coach Aaron Kapiko said. “It was a very good night for us.”

Rocket League is a high-speed video game in which teams use vehicles to guide a ball into their opponent’s goal.

Members of Blinn’s Rocket League team are Zach Matthews (Conroe), Jack Barry (Houston), Jake Sansom (Friendswood), and Kyle Jones (Gilmer).

 

 

Blinn’s Valorant team stayed unbeaten Wednesday, taking down Texas A&M University-San Antonio 2-0.

Kapiko said the Valorant team, now 3-0 on the season, was dominant in its win over A&M-San Antonio.

Team members are Jacob Humphrey (Smithville), Justin Barry (Houston), Irie Ybarra (College Station), Cameron Forde (Copperas Cove), John Hedrick (Kingwood), and Michael Pope (College Station).

Blinn’s Overwatch team plays St. Andrews University tonight. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is scheduled to take on Texas A&M-San Antonio on Friday.

Blinn began its esports program this fall. It is a member of the National Association of College Esports and competes two-year colleges and four-year universities. Blinn is also one of only a few community colleges in the region which offers esports scholarships.
