BASEBALL: Blinn Suffers Sweep at Galveston, 11-1 and 4-3

GALVESTON, Texas – Blinn College had a rough day at Galveston College as the Buccaneers were swept 11-1 and 4-3 on Saturday to lose two out of three in the series.

With the pair of losses, Blinn falls to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in Region XIV play.

Galveston 11 – Blinn 1

Galveston got off to a great start offensively and Blinn was unable to keep up as Galveston cruised to an 11-1 victory in five innings to open the doubleheader.

Johnny Rizer had the lone RBI for Blinn in the third inning with a double.

Galveston jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings with three runs in the opening inning and an additional run in the second inning. Rizer helped get Blinn on the board with an RBI double to right to score Drew Ardoin to get within 4-1 in the third. That would be the final run scored for Blinn as Galveston poured it on with two runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to end the game early.

Galveston 4 – Blinn 3

Blinn played much better in the closing game of the doubleheader but Galveston was able to pull ahead with three runs in the sixth and hold on for a 4-3 victory to secure the sweep.

Angel De La Fuente had an RBI while Marshall Skinner also brought in a run and hit a single. Sam McElreath was the only Blinn player with an extra-base hit with his double.

Blinn was able to strike first in the third inning when Ardoin singled with one out and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by De La Fuente for a 1-0 lead. Galveston tied the game with a single run in the fifth and then took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the sixth.

The Buccaneers did get it closer in the seventh when Ardoin reached base after getting hit by a pitch and then came in score after an RBI ground out by Skinner. Colton Parrish later scored on a Galveston error to get within 4-3. Blinn got a runner to second in the final inning but couldn’t tie the game up as Galveston held on for the one-run victory.

Blinn will start up a series with Alvin Community College with a home game on Thursday, March 9 at 4 p.m.
