The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Marshal’s Office posted scenes from a massive grassfire that has taken them over two days to try to get contained.  The Dry Rice Fire has consumed over 326 acres and is currently being reported as 95% contained according to Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer.  Austin County sent a task force to assist with the fire while making sure to keep main resources within the county should a fire break out here.  This dry season has seen an uptick in fires as conditions continue to be dry and hot; perfect for fires.  Please be sure and check with your local fire departments as bottled water being made available to onsite workers has been one of the biggest needs.  We will update this story if any additional information is forthcoming.
