Austin County suffered a tragic loss yesterday when an equipment malfunction claimed the life of Commissioner Precinct 4 Douglas King. Austin County Judge Tim Lapham’s Office released the following press release concerning the accident:
On Monday December 17, 2018, Austin County lost one of its beloved leaders. Precinct 4 Commissioner Douglas King was repairing a piece of equipment with some of his crew. The accident is still under investigation. At approximately 2:30pm, two moving pieces closed suddenly on Commissioner King. Emergency responders were immediately called to the scene. Commissioner King died on scene from his injuries. He was about to begin his third term as commissioner. He was a dedicated commissioner and father. Pray for his family in this time of tragedy. A fund for his children has been set up at First National Bank of Bellville.

As most of you have already heard, our family has suffered a tremendous loss. On December 17, 2018 we tragically lost a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend and most importantly with devastating heartbreak, a Dad. After suffering through the loss of their mother just 6 years ago this is unfathomable so we ask that you take a moment of your time and say a prayer for his precious children.

(Sealy, Texas) – On December 18, 2018 at approximately 2:30 pm, the Sealy Police Department investigated a worksite accident at the Austin County Pct. 4 building, located at 416 Gebhardt Road in Sealy, Texas which resulted in the death of Austin County Commissioner Douglas King.
The Sealy Police Department, extends its condolences to the family, friends and Austin County employees during this tragic time.
