In the early morning hours of February 3, 2024, Deputies from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) swiftly responded to a report of a disturbance in the 2000 block of Witte Road, Bellville, Texas. The caller informed ACSO dispatch that a male subject was armed and discharging a firearm inside a residence. Promptly, law enforcement units arrived on the scene, ensuring the safety of all family members within the residence, while the suspect remained barricaded inside with a firearm.

Recognizing the potential risks involved, the Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) was promptly activated and dispatched to the scene. Additionally, the SRT Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) was summoned to establish communication with the suspect. Their skilled negotiation efforts proved successful as they peacefully persuaded the suspect to surrender. When taken into custody, the suspect, identified as Don Nguyen (24), was found to be unarmed, but a firearm and shell casings were discovered within the residence.

Don Nguyen was subsequently transported and booked into the Austin County Jail, where he faces the charge of Aggravated Assault/Family Violence/with a weapon.

The Austin County Regional Special Response Team, encompassing four counties, is comprised of dedicated law enforcement officers from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, Sealy Police Department, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, Austin County Constable Pct. 2, and Tactical Medics from the Washington County EMS.
