The Austin County EMS Director Walter Morrow spoke to the Sealy City Council to give an update on the EMS in relations to service calls and how the EMS is currently serving the area.  A quick take on the stats that he relayed:

Last year…

  • 1 of every 8 citizens of Austin County called for an ambulance
  • Austin County EMS responded to over 3500 requests for help
  • Over 3200 patient contacts
  • 70% of patients are transported by ground ambulance (34 patients flown by air medical)
  • 24% refuse transport
  • 6% other (34 patients flown by air medical)
  • District 2 (Sealy area from Peters San Felipe Rd (N) to Klopsteck Rd (S) to county line (E) & (W) is responsible for 54% of the total county call volume.  The Sealy Zip Code is responsible for 51% of the total volume.
  • Average Response Time – 35 Seconds
  • Average Response Time of Call to On Location – 9 minutes
  • County Wide Response Time is under 16.5 minutes (90% of the time)
  • Medic 2 average 8 min 11 sec.
  • Average On Scene Time – 19.5 min
  • Average “Complete a Call” Time
  • 30min to 1hr 33.4%
  • 1hr to 1.5hr 29.7%
  • 1.5hr to 3hr 21.5%…
  • 84% of the time it takes 1/2hr – 3 hrs to complete a call
