The Virgil and Josephine Gordon Memorial Library in Sealy, Texas, is more than just a place to check out books. It’s a cornerstone of the community, bridging the gap between digital resources and traditional library services while fostering education and connection for all ages.

In the latest episode of “Hello Austin County”, Shelley Stuessel-Brian and Greg Stuessel sat down with library manager AbbyLynn Moyle to discuss the library’s pivotal role in the community, its history, and its exciting programs and services.

AbbyLynn shared her journey to becoming the library manager—a path that began as a part-time clerk position and quickly evolved into a full-time passion. Once a travel agent helping people explore the world, Abilene now helps patrons “travel the world through books,” as Shelley so aptly put it.

The library’s services extend far beyond lending books. From assisting seniors with digital literacy to helping residents navigate online services like Social Security and driver’s license appointments, the library acts as an information hub for Sealy. For younger patrons, summer programs provide engaging activities such as archery, visits from reptile experts, and themed reading challenges.

During the interview, AbbyLynn highlighted some of the library’s unique features, including its book-sharing program with other libraries across Texas, its community-driven funding model, and the popular summer reading program, which this year will follow the theme, “Color Our World.”

AbbyLynn also emphasized the importance of public support in maintaining and expanding the library’s services. With a $60,000 annual funding gap, the library relies heavily on donations from the community. Efforts like their Giving Tree and the ability to sponsor books in honor of loved ones ensure every dollar directly supports the library’s operations.

The Virgil and Josephine Gordon Memorial Library is more than a resource—it’s a space for connection, learning, and inspiration. To learn more about its programs or to make a donation, visit the library’s website or stop by during their open hours.
