The Blinn College esports team competed in the University of North Texas-Dallas Super Smash Bros Invitational on Saturday.
The Buccaneers played two matches in the double-elimination tournament but were unable to get past a tough Dallas Baptist University squad.
In its first tilt of the day, Blinn fell to the Patriots 1-0 before falling to DBU 2-0 in its final match of the day.
Competing for the Bucs was Joshua Delossantos, Brady Landry, Gabe Pipes, and Tanner Hicks.
“This was the first time our Super Smash Bros team competed at an in-person event. Not only that, but they also played on the main stage with announcers, and it’s a big difference from how they are used to playing,” said Blinn assistant coach and Super Smash Bros manager Kyle Murto. “So, I can’t hound them too much for one disappointing performance. We will come back and perform better next time.”
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
