A historic season of Blinn College women’s soccer came to a close in a thrilling Region XIV Tournament semifinal tilt Sunday.

The Buccaneers, playing host to ninth-ranked Navarro College at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station, Texas, went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs through two scoreless halves and a pair of scoreless overtime periods before ultimately falling 8-7 in a penalty shootout.

Blinn’s season ends with a program-best 12-5 record after the team reached the tournament semifinal round for the second time in team history. The Bucs were also playing in their fourth consecutive postseason.

“It was a tough way to end the year, but this season was historical nevertheless,” Blinn head coach Alex Jackson said. “This program took a leap forward and we will continue to do so. We are thankful to Blinn’s administration, our sophomores, and our community for their contributions to our success.”

The Bucs totaled four shots, including two on goal, while freshman goalkeeper Cheiann George made eight saves.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
