Do you have type 2 diabetes?ย ย Do you have questions that are unanswered or you just want the facts?ย Would you like to learn how to better manage your diabetes or care for a loved one with type 2 diabetes?ย If so, please join us for “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes!” According to the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/atlas/countydata/atlas.html, there were 2,149 people diagnosed with diabetes (10.3%) in Austin County.ย ย Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes is an educational program offered on a yearly basis for people with type 2 diabetes.ย The classes will be conducted by area physicians and health and nutrition professionals.ย The five week series will address topics such as โHow Food Affects Your Blood Glucoseโ, โAre You Eating the Right Number of Carbs?โ,ย โBeyond the Diet: Improving Your Blood Glucose Control with Physical Activityโ, Beyond the Diet & Physical Activity:ย Improving Your Blood Glucose Control with Medicationโ, and โCelebrating Diabetes Control:ย Having Your Cake (or Snack) and Eating it, Too!ย While Avoiding Complications.ย ย The classes are scheduled to start on August 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and September 8th.ย All classes will be conducted at 6:30 p.m at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office located at 20 S. Holland in Bellville, TX.ย Pre-registration will run from now until August 3rd and the cost for the program is $30.00 per person.ย Please add $10.00 as of August 4th ($40.00).ย Evening refreshments will be served at each meeting.ย Care givers of type 2 diabetes individuals are encouraged to participate too.ย The primary goal is to help participants learn how to manage their meal plan and self-care to maintain their blood glucose in the ranges recommended by the American Diabetes Association.ย The program is being sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Bellville St. Josephs Health Center, and the Department of State Health and Human Services.ย You can do well and be well with diabetes!
