Two individuals with alleged ties to an Arkansas-based drug trafficking organization were arrested in Austin County following an undercover operation conducted by the Westside Narcotics Task Force.
According to authorities, Cameron Clater and Juwan Bradley were taken into custody on Saturday after investigators received information that the pair had traveled to the area with plans to purchase 25 kilograms of cocaine. Members of the task force, working in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety, launched an undercover operation that led to the arrests.
During the operation, officers seized $326,671 in U.S. currency.
Authorities indicate that the amount of cocaine involved represents a significant quantity. While prices can vary depending on factors such as purity and distribution level, officials estimate that 25 kilograms could carry a wholesale value ranging from $500,000 to $1 million. Once distributed at the street level, that same amount could potentially be worth between $2 million and $3 million or more.
The seizure of the cash is tied to the charges filed in the case. In Texas, money laundering charges can apply not only to attempts to conceal money through financial systems, but also to possessing or using funds believed to be connected to criminal activity. Investigators allege the seized currency was intended to be used in a large-scale drug transaction, which led to its confiscation.
Clater and Bradley have been charged with money laundering by the Austin County District Attorney’s Office.
The Westside Narcotics Task Force operates as part of a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area initiative and serves multiple counties. The task force includes investigators from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, Sealy Police Department, Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, Hempstead Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
