The Austin County Historical Commission (ACHC) is inviting the public to a free oral history workshop on Saturday, March 8, in Bellville. The event is designed to teach attendees how to conduct effective oral history interviews, making it an excellent opportunity for those researching family history or looking to engage with the community’s historical preservation efforts.
The ACHC recently began its 2025-2026 operational period, with newly appointed commissioners continuing the mission of preserving and promoting local history. As part of this effort, the upcoming workshop will cover key aspects of oral history interviews, including structuring questions, selecting subjects, and ensuring high-quality final recordings. Leading the session will be ACHC Commissioner Mike Vance, a respected historian, author, and filmmaker with extensive experience in conducting interviews. With hundreds of oral histories to his credit, Vance will provide practical insights and best practices for capturing meaningful stories.
The workshop will take place at the Bellville ISD Administration Building, located at 518 South Matthews Street, west of O’Bryant Intermediate School. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last between 75 and 90 minutes. There is no cost to attend, but registration is encouraged.
