Job Description: STREET & SANITATION MAINTENANCE LABORER
CLASS NO. 625 EEOC CATEGORY: Service Maintenance
PAY GROUP: 1 FLSA: Nonexempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to the cleanliness, maintenance, and repair of city facilities, streets, drainage systems, and right-of-ways.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Director of Assistant Public Works Director; may receive direction from Heavy Equipment Operator Crew Leader.
Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
Other: Has contact with other city employees and occasionally with the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
Assists with the repair of potholes, including setting up barricades at work sites to warn traffic of hazardous areas, and measuring, cleaning, and filling holes;
Hand shovels dirt, gravel, or asphalt;
Tamps, packs, and levels dirt, asphalt, or other material;
Maintains ditches by hand or using a push or power lawn mower, power trimmer, hoe, shovel, or swing blade;
Trims trees, pick up brush, and loads brush onto the truck;
Picks up litter on the sides of streets and roads;
Maintains public works building, including sweeping and cleaning restrooms, offices, and shop areas;
Attends training sessions on safety and street maintenance as required;
Paints curbs and parking lines; and
Installs and maintains road signs.
Other Important Duties*
May operate water truck to control dust; and
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
