JOB DESCRIPTION GROUNDS ATHLETICS CUSTODIAN Clean and maintain district facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district. Reports to: Director of Maintenance Location: Bellville High School Qualifications: Education/Certification Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to read and understand written instructions Ability to communicate (verbally) Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools Major Responsibilities and Duties Grounds and Landscaping 1. Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields. 2. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields. 3. Water grounds and apply fertilizer. 4. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities. Safety 5. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. 6. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. 7. Help keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. 8. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. 9. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 10. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Cleaning 11. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms with flexible hours. 12. Keep school buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean. 13. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash. 14. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed. Maintenance and Repair 15. Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
Supervisory Responsibilities None. Equipment Used Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, post hole auger, aerator. Light truck or van, ATV and field sweeper. Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Flexible hours.
