The Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) recently concluded an investigation into allegations of theft from the Bellville Little League. The investigation was initiated after concerns were first reported to the Bellville Police Department. However, due to the scope and nature of the allegations, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office CID, working in conjunction with the Austin County District Attorney, took over the case.

 

 

According to investigators, claims surfaced suggesting that someone was embezzling money from concession stand receipts during the 2023-2024 baseball season. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered discrepancies in bank and League records, revealing that more than $10,000 had been stolen. On September 25, 2024, Former Bellville City Councilwoman, Ashley Hoffman Slater  was indicted by an Austin County Grand Jury on charges of Theft of Property valued between $2,500 and $30,000. The following day, on September 26, 2024, Slater was arrested by CID investigators in connection with the case and was booked into the Austin County jail without incident.

 

The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in local organizations. The investigation is ongoing, and the Austin County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with additional information to come forward. This case serves as a reminder to the community that local law enforcement takes such allegations seriously and will continue to work diligently to uphold the integrity of organizations like the Bellville Little League.
