The Austin County 4-H program is spotlighting Teaghan Eckelberg, a member of the Milheim 4-H Club, for her leadership, service and long-standing involvement in the organization.

Teaghan has been a part of 4-H for nine years and currently serves as the Austin County 4-H County Council Reporter. In this role, she helps share information about 4-H activities and opportunities while encouraging youth across the county to get involved. Her favorite 4-H project is the Beef Project, which reflects her strong interest in agriculture. One of the leadership roles Teaghan is most proud of is serving as vice president of the Milheim 4-H Club, a position that helped her build confidence and leadership skills.

As a County Council officer, Teaghan’s goals include encouraging younger members to participate in 4-H and helping make others aware of the many career paths and opportunities that can grow from the program. One of Teaghan’s favorite 4-H memories came this past year when she was part of the team that won the State Quiz Bowl competition, an accomplishment she says stands out among her many experiences in 4-H.

Community service has also played an important role in her 4-H journey. The project she enjoyed most involved creating a Christmas gift basket for a family in need. The basket was filled with toys and treats to help ensure the family could enjoy a festive and joyful holiday season.

Teaghan says one of the most valuable skills she has gained through 4-H is public speaking. While speaking in front of others can be intimidating, she credits 4-H with helping her grow more confident and comfortable sharing her voice. Outside of 4-H, Teaghan enjoys creating jewelry, a creative hobby that allows her to express herself in a different way.

Looking ahead, Teaghan plans to pursue a career in agricultural law, with the goal of advocating for agricultural land and products. She says being a leader in Austin County 4-H is meaningful because it allows her to give back to the organization that provided her with lifelong skills and lasting relationships, while also helping her grow through teaching and working with others.

Her involvement reflects the positive impact 4-H continues to have on youth throughout Austin County by developing leadership, service and confidence in the next generation.
