The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Austin County has announced the updated schedule for the 2025 Private Applicator Training (PAT) classes. These sessions are essential for anyone needing a license to purchase and apply state-limited or restricted-use pesticides, such as Grazon P+D, 2,4-D, or Weedmaster.
Two training opportunities remain this year:
- Friday, August 15, 2025
- Friday, November 14, 2025
Each class will run from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Austin County Extension Office, located at 800 E Wendt St in Bellville.
Participants must register for the private applicator training in advance. The registration fee is $10, which covers the training session and additional study materials. Course books and study guides are available separately for $50 and can be picked up ahead of time from the Extension Office. Payments must be made by check or exact cash. While the training is administered by the Extension Office, the licensing exam itself is overseen by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and facilitated through Metro Institute. Attendees will receive full instructions during the training, including how to schedule their exam at one of Metro Instituteโs 31 locations across Texas.
To earn a Private Applicator License, participants must attend the training and pass the exam with a score of 70 or higher. This license enables holders to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides on their own agricultural property. Anyone with questions about the training may contact Stacie Villarreal, County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources, at 979-865-2072. For exam or licensing-specific inquiries, contact the TDA at 800-835-5832 or 512-463-7622.
