A 39-year-old man was released from Harris County Jail after posting a $75,000 bond following his arrest for unlawfully carrying a weapon onto Zwink Elementary School campus.

Kyle Najm Chris, also known as Muhi Mohanad Najm, entered the school on March 10, 2026, through a front door that had not fully latched after a parent exited, according to court documents and Klein ISD statements. He was wearing tactical-style clothing and a load-bearing vest and was armed with a holstered handgun and a taser. He walked to the front office, asked staff about armed security on campus, and left the building without entering hallways or classrooms. The schoolโ€™s secure vestibule system prevented further access. No students or staff were injured.

Chris, who lives near the school, was arrested the following day at his home by Klein ISD police. He faces a third-degree felony charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place under Texas Penal Code ยง46.03. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2022.

Harris County District Court Judge Lori Chambers Gray set bond at $75,000. Chris posted the bond and was released in mid-March 2026. Upon release, he is under 24-hour house arrest with a GPS ankle monitor and is prohibited from approaching or entering any Klein ISD property. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 2026.

Community Response

The incident, which occurred the same week as two other gun-related events in Klein ISD (a student with an unloaded firearm at Klein High and a discharge at Klein Collins High), has drawn significant attention from parents and online commentators.ย

Local news outlets reported that families formed the Klein ISD Parent Safety Coalition and launched a petition calling for enhanced security measures, including metal detectors at secondary schools, stronger entry controls, and faster parent notifications during incidents.

Additional coverage showed parents gathering to sign the petition, which has neared 700 signatures:

Klein ISD officials stated they are reviewing district-wide security, emphasized the vestibule’s role in containing the incident, and coordinated delayed parent notification with agencies to aid the arrest. They urged families to discuss weapon safety at home.

The case is ongoing, with no additional charges or updates on motive reported by authorities.
