A second-half rally spoiled the Blinn College women’s basketball team’s trip to Tyler, Texas, as host Tyler Junior College defeated the Buccaneers 80-70 in Region XIV action Saturday.
Blinn (17-8, 7-4 Region XIV) had a promising first half against the Apaches, but allowed 45 points after halftime and made matters worse with just 30 points of its own.
“We cannot give up 45 points in the second half,” Bucs head coachย Jeff Jenkinsย said. “We need to work on some defensive mistakes before the regional tournament.”
Blinn led 20-19 after the first quarter and 40-35 at the break before Tyler rallied for a 58-49 lead after the third period.
Freshman guardsย Jonesha Nealย andย Wynter Jonesย paced Blinn with 11 points apiece, and freshman guardย Chelsy Singletonย and freshman forwardย Tocarra Johnsonย each chipped in 10.
Up next for the Bucs is a trip to Angelina College for a region bout beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Lufkin, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 45 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
