The Blinn College esports Rocket League team picked up two wins in NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) action Friday.

The Buccaneers defeated Dallas College Eastfield 3-0 and Laredo College 3-1 in best-of-five play, prevailing in what head coach and team manager  called a “critical doubleheader.”

The team of Xavier JohnsonBraeden PomeroyTravis Stansberry, and Edward Tejada competed for Blinn, which improved to 9-3 in the NJCAAe Central Conference. The Bucs have won seven consecutive matches.

Rocket League combines elements of soccer with fast-paced car mechanics. Teams of three players use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into the opponent’s goal. Teams with the most goals during a five-minute match win.

Blinn defeated Eastfield 3-0, 6-0, and 3-0 for the sweep before knocking off Laredo 2-1 in round one, 2-1 in round three, and 6-3 in round four.

The Bucs are currently in line for the sixth seed in the NJCAA Esports Central Super Regional, which will feature eight of the 14 teams in the Central Conference. With its two wins Friday, if Blinn earns a victory in its regular-season finale, that triumph combined with favorable outcomes in other Central Conference matches could help the Bucs move up to as high as the third seed in the super regional bracket.

“These two wins were incredibly important for our playoff positioning and helped create some distance between us and the conference’s bubble teams,” Murto said. “As we near the end of the regular season, this performance showed our growth, adaptability, and ability to step up when it matters most. With momentum on our side, we’re looking to finish strong and lock in a high seed heading into the postseason.”

Blinn Rocket League concludes its regular season against Bevill State Community College at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 4.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 national championships since 1987.
