Sealy’s FFA attended the 2025 Texas FFA State Speaking Development Events (SDE) that were held June 3–4 at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. This event draws top-tier FFA public speakers from across the state to compete in a showcase of agricultural knowledge, leadership, and communication.

Among the standouts at this year’s event was Sealy FFA’s Alana Lindsay, who wrapped up her impressive FFA speaking career with a 7th place finish in the state Plant Science Division—a remarkable achievement in one of the most competitive Senior Prepared Public Speaking categories. Her performance capped off years of dedication and poise on the FFA stage. Also making headlines was Ainsley Oliver, who earned the title of State FFA Champion in the Junior Prepared Public Speaking event. Her commanding delivery and thoughtful content earned her the coveted state champion banner, bringing pride and celebration back to Sealy. Behind the scenes—but never out of the spotlight—Atalie Petrash played the role of coach, supporter, and all-around hype woman for the Sealy FFA team. Her enthusiasm and encouragement were key in helping the speakers bring their best to the state level, proving that leadership sometimes happens behind the podium, not just at it.

What Are the Speaking Development Events?
The Texas FFA Speaking Development Events are designed to cultivate student skills in research, writing, and public speaking—all through the lens of agriculture. These events are not just competitions; they’re opportunities for young leaders to grow, connect, and prepare for future roles in agricultural industries, education, public service, and beyond.

Event Categories Include:

  • Extemporaneous Public Speaking – Competitors draw a topic and prepare a speech in just 30 minutes.
  • Junior Prepared Public Speaking – For 7th–9th graders; involves a 5–8 minute prepared speech on any agricultural subject.
  • Senior Prepared Public Speaking – For upperclassmen, speeches run 6–8 minutes and are categorized by topics like Plant Science, Animal Science, Natural Resources, and more.
  • Soil Stewardship Prepared Public Speaking – A themed event in partnership with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board.

Competition Format:
Students begin at the district level and progress through area events before reaching the state stage. Evaluations are based on speech content, delivery, and the ability to field questions from judges. State champions often earn the opportunity to compete at the National FFA Convention.

These events not only strengthen communication abilities but also promote leadership, confidence, and agricultural literacy—skills that benefit students for a lifetime. Congratulations to Sealy FFA members Alana, Ainsley, Atalie, and the entire Sealy FFA team on an unforgettable showing at state. Your hard work, heart, and hustle truly stood out!
