Sealy Christian Pantry began in 1987 when six local women, armed with just $60, help from two grocery stores, and a borrowed garage, set out to fight hunger in the community. Over the years, it has grown into a vital nonprofit organization, serving thousands of families struggling with food insecurity.

Growing to Meet the Needs of the Community
In 1997, the pantry moved into its own building on Ward Street, serving over 1,200 families that yearโ€”a 15% increase from the previous year. As demand continued to rise, space constraints became an issue. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the pantry adapted by shifting to a drive-through distribution model. The same year, the Houston Food Bank updated its requirements, making it necessary to order food in bulkโ€”a challenge the small Ward Street location couldnโ€™t accommodate. Fortunately, Lifebridge Community Church stepped in, providing much-needed space for storage and distribution, a partnership that continues today.

Impact and Continued Support
At the height of the pandemic, Sealy Christian Pantry served nearly 400 families per week. Since April 2020, over 5 million pounds of food have been distributed to the Sealy community. In January 2023, the pantry reinstated its client interview and qualification process, returning to its original personalized food assistance model. In February 2024, the pantry relocated to its current location at 412 Old San Felipe Road, Sealy, TX. The move was made possible thanks to the overwhelming support of the community. Sealy Christian Pantry distributes food every Wednesday by appointment from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Eligible families can receive assistance every other week. As a Houston Food Bank partner site, the pantry takes part in initiatives like the Non-Congregate Summer Feeding Program through Kids Cafe, ensuring local children receive nutritious meals.
