CALDWELL, TEXAS — State Representative Leighton Schubert (R-Caldwell) announced today that he is resigning as State Representative for House District 13 effective February 4, 2018.

“Serving the people of District 13 over the past two terms has been a great honor,” said Representative Schubert. “As a fifth generation resident of this district on both sides of my family, one of my main goals as State Representative was to help make our area an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Schubert previously announced that he would not be seeking a third term in the Texas House. “After announcing my retirement, an opportunity arose to continue to serve our area with Blinn College,” said Representative Schubert. “As a state, we must remain focused on preparing future generations of Texans to meet the job demands of tomorrow’s economy. Blinn College is on the forefront of this vital work not only in our area, but across the state of Texas. My family and I are excited about having the opportunity to play a part in the future success of our beloved Blinn College.”

Schubert was first elected in 2015 and is now in his second term representing Texas House District 13 that includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca and Washington Counties.  Schubert serves on the House Committee on House Administration, the House Committee on Energy Resources and the House Committee on Special Purpose Districts.  Schubert is a practicing attorney in Caldwell where he lives with his wife Brittany and son Declan.
