The Military Families Learning Network and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present an online professional development webinar on the services the American Red Cross provides to current and former military members and their families from 10-11 a.m. on Sept. 29. 

The free webinar, American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, will provide information about Red Cross programs that provide various services and resources to service members, veterans and their families.

“There will be a special emphasis on Red Cross Resiliency Workshops, including a workshop preview that will show a portion of a workshop to demonstrate its service,” said Rachel Brauner, AgriLife Extension specialist – military programs. Bauer said AgriLife Extension provides support to active-duty and veteran military and their families through various initiatives and programs.

Webinar presenter, learning objectives

Ed Helphinstine, Service to the Armed Forces and international services manager for the Central Appalachian Region of the American Red Cross, will be the presenter.

“Mr. Helphinstine has been with the American Red Cross for five years and has about 30 years collective experience in leading and managing complex and diverse teams,” Brauner said. “He began his Red Cross career as a disaster program manager, and today he oversees the needs of service members, veterans and their families in a geographic region consisting of 77 counties.”

During the webinar, attendees will:

— Learn about the Red Cross’ mission and congressional charter to serve military personnel, veterans and family members.

— Hear about various programs, services and resources offered through the Red Cross’ Service to Armed Forces Program.

— Be introduced to and preview new Red Cross efforts to provide Resiliency Workshops for military personnel and families.

Continuing education credits

Continuing education credits from the webinar will be offered in the areas of:

  • Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist – one continuing education credit from the University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work for credentialed and licensed professionals.
  • Case Managers – submitted to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board-certified case managers with one clock hour of credit.
  • Board Certified Patient Advocates – one continuing education contact hour.
  • Certified Family Life Educators – one continuing education credit

Certificates of completion are available for participants interested in receiving training hours.
