BEEVILLE, Texas — Blinn men’s basketball was within striking distance on several occasions during its game but was unable to come up with the big play to defeat Coastal Bend College as the Buccaneers fell 76-72 on Saturday night in Beeville.

“I thought our guys competed and played hard,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “We just didn’t finish some shots that we normally have.”

Markques Houston led the Blinn offense with 20 points, while Curtlon Wesley recorded 10 points.

The Buccaneers and Coastal Bend played a close first half as Blinn only trailed by one-point at the half, 35-34. Coastal Bend outscored Blinn by three points in the second half which was just enough for the win.

The loss ended a three-game win streak for the Buccaneers as their overall record drops to 17-9 and Region XIV record falls to 7-8.

The Buccaneers will look for their 15th home win on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. against Lamar State College-Port Arthur. Earlier in the season Blinn defeated Lamar State College 57-56.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
