McDonald’s announced on its website that it is teaming up with Dr. Seuss Enterprises this holiday season to launch The Grinch Meal, a limited-time promotion arriving nationwide on Dec. 2, 2025. The collaboration brings the infamous green troublemaker straight from Mt. Crumpit to the Golden Arches for a menu twist designed to add a dose of holiday mischief to the season.

The Grinch Meal marks the first U.S. debut of Dill Pickle “Grinch Salt” McShaker Fries. Customers sprinkle the tangy seasoning into a provided McShaker bag and shake to coat McDonald’s World Famous Fries for a bold, mouth-puckering flavor. The meal also includes a choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and a medium drink. In the grand tradition of a Happy Meal, each order comes with a surprise: a pair of “spirited” Grinch socks featuring tongue-in-cheek messages from the Grinch himself. Available in four bright colors, the socks double as an impromptu holiday stocking — a nod to the character’s signature blend of chaos and charm.

In a handwritten note “from Mt. Crumpit,” the Grinch shared his perspective on the partnership.

“THiS iS MY MEAL AND i DiDN’T PARTNER WiTH McDONALD’S OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF MY HEART,” the note read. “i SAW AN OPPORTUNiTY TO BRiNG MiSCHiEF TO YOUR BELOVED ‘RESTAURANT’ WiTH MY DELiCiOUS CHAOS FOR THE HOLiDAYS AND i TOOK iT. SO GO AHEAD, GRAB MY MEAL STARTiNG DEC. 2 — YOU’RE WELCOME FOR MAKiNG YOUR HOLiDAYS iNFiNiTELY MORE iNTERESTiNG.”

McDonald’s said the meal will be available for a limited time at participating restaurants nationwide, while supplies last. The promotion arrives as fast-food chains continue leaning into nostalgic tie-ins and collectible add-ons during the holiday season. For customers seeking a seasonal treat — or a pair of snarky Grinch socks — McDonald’s holiday menu will offer both.

Why the Grinch Meal Taps Into Nostalgia — and Why It Works Now

Fast-food chains are increasingly turning to nostalgia-driven promotions, and The Grinch Meal is a clear example of why the strategy resonates with consumers. Nostalgia continues to be one of the strongest forces in holiday marketing, drawing on familiar characters, comfort foods and long-standing traditions. For many, the Grinch is a holiday staple — a character tied to childhood memories, classic television specials and decades of seasonal storytelling. That emotional connection gives the promotion an instant audience.

The strategy also reflects a broader trend in the industry. Rather than reinventing menus from the ground up, restaurants are introducing novelty through limited-time flavors, themed packaging or collectible items. The Grinch Meal follows this formula with Dill Pickle “Grinch Salt” McShaker Fries — a nod to the 1990s McShaker trend — and a pair of themed socks designed to feel like a playful holiday extra. These touches give customers something new without requiring major operational changes.

Social media has amplified the appeal. Promotions that include quirky, shareable elements — such as a character tie-in or a collectible item — tend to spread quickly online. The Grinch socks in particular are positioned as a small gift or novelty item, adding to the meal’s shareability and making it feel more like a holiday treat than a typical order.

The timing is also deliberate. The winter season naturally drives demand for comfort foods, festive packaging and limited-edition offerings. Consumers are more likely to indulge, try seasonal items or participate in holiday-themed promotions. By combining a beloved holiday character with a familiar meal and a lighthearted collectible, McDonald’s has created a product that fits squarely within what holiday shoppers are already looking for — warmth, tradition and a little bit of fun.
