Part Time - Library Technical Assistant
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time - Library Technical Assistant at our Brenham Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:
Job Summary
Provide clerical, technical, and customer service support to facilitate effective library operations and services.
Principal Accountabilities
- Position requires evening and weekend work as scheduled.
- Assist students and other library users in person, by telephone, and through other communication channels as needed.
- Answers basic reference and directional questions and refers complex inquiries to librarians. Provides instruction in the use of library resources, technology, computers, and printing services.
- Monitors library spaces and supports a safe, respectful, and study-focused environment.
- Performs circulation and course reserve functions using the integrated library system, including checking materials in and out, processing reserves, and coordinating reserve requests with faculty
- Creates and maintains patron records while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy policies.
- Processes fines, fees, and lost-material charges and maintains related records.
- Coordinates loaning of materials and resource-sharing services, including document delivery and material transfers, using OCLC WMS and related systems.
- Processes serials and periodicals, including check-in and maintenance of holdings records using library systems and MARC standards.
- Generates reports and compiles usage, circulation, and collection statistics.
- Assists with the training of student employees.
- Operates, troubleshoots, and performs routine maintenance on library equipment and technology.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years of customer service, clerical, library, or related experience
Minimum Competencies
- Demonstrates excellent customer service, active listening skills, and professionalism in challenging situations.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintains accuracy and attention to detail in data entry and recordkeeping.
- Understands and follows written and verbal instructions.
- Learns and effectively uses integrated library systems, online catalogs, databases, and other library technologies.
- Demonstrates proficiency with computers, printers, scanners, copiers, and other library and office technology; provides basic technology assistance to users.
- Uses Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, to create and maintain documents, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift books and push loaded book carts
- Works independently, manages priorities effectively, and completes assignments accurately and on time.
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of college education.
- Two years of library paraprofessional experience.
Special Notes to Applicant
Position is 19 hours per week.
Monday 6:15-9:30 pm, Tues-Wed 6-9:30 pm, Thurs 5-9:30 pm, Sat 11:45 am-4 pm
